Welcome help to extend the reach and influence of the Québec electrical industry's supply chain

The Association de l'industrie électrique du Québec (AIEQ) is delighted with the announcement by the Ministère de l'Économie et de l'Innovation of $5 million in financial assistance to set up the Strategic Electricity Supply Project for Quebec (PASQÉ).

This initiative, which aims to increase the competitiveness of Quebec suppliers to the electrical industry in order to secure the supply chain and promote local economic spin-offs, is in line with the government's strategy of electrifying its economy, an important key to facilitating the energy transition.

The AIEQ considers the timing of this announcement to be particularly appropriate. This world-class ecosystem is important to support Hydro-Québec's ambitions to modernize its infrastructure in order to increase its capacity to generate, transmit and deliver electricity from renewable sources, which will be in great demand over the coming decades.

The use of hydroelectricity is at the heart of Quebec's economic growth. If we want to remain a leader in this sector on the international stage, it's essential to focus on developing a local, sustainable supply chain.

Pierre Fitzgibbon

Minister of the Economy and Innovation and Minister responsible for Regional Economic Development

Electricity from renewable sources is a preferred solution to the major challenges Quebec faces in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. The AIEQ's project will encourage the creation and growth of sustainable businesses for a greener future, and that's why we're proud to contribute to it.

Since its inception, Hydro-Québec has sought to optimize the spinoffs of its activities in Quebec and to showcase local know-how. We applaud this initiative, which will consolidate our Québec supply chain and ultimately secure and create jobs here. For Hydro-Québec, pooling our energies to promote our companies and our know-how is a matter of course.

Ms. Sophie Brochu

This is a major investment in a strategic sector that is one of the pillars of the Quebec economy, and a major contributor to exports of specialized goods and services. Our industry has a very bright future, given the massive investments announced by the Quebec government and other jurisdictions to further electrify the economy.

Denis Tremblay

President and General Manager, Association de l'industrie électrique du Québec (AIEQ)

The AIEQ would like to emphasize that this project was made possible thanks to a unique collaboration between the various stakeholders essential to its success. In addition to the Ministère de l'Économie et de l'Innovation, which is funding the initiative, Hydro-Québec, Investissement Québec, the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie, the Ministère de l'Énergie et des Ressources naturelles, as well as many of Québec's leading companies, all played an active role.
